Getting Started with Bisq
Your complete guide to downloading, installing, and making your first peer‑to‑peer Bitcoin trade.
Download & Install Bisq
Choose the version that fits your needs. Bisq 2 is recommended for beginners (includes Bisq Easy). Bisq 1 is the classic client with full multisig features.
Always verify the PGP signature after downloading. See the video for instructions.
Go to Downloads →Back Up Your Wallet & Seed
You are the sole custodian of your funds. Write down the 12‑word seed phrase (found in Account → Wallet Seed) and store it securely offline. Without it, you cannot recover your bitcoin.
Also back up your data directory to preserve payment accounts and trade history. See the video for a full walkthrough.
Add a Payment Account
Select your preferred method to send or receive fiat or altcoins. Bisq supports bank transfers, SEPA, Zelle, Revolut, and many altcoin wallets.
Fiat accounts: Choose from supported methods – each has its own trading limits to minimize chargeback risk.
Altcoin accounts: For Monero, ensure your wallet can provide transaction keys; for BSQ, use the DAO wallet.

Make Your First Trade
You have two options: Take an existing offer for a quick trade, or create your own offer to get a better price (makers pay lower fees).
During the trade, both parties lock a security deposit in a 2‑of‑2 multisig address. Once you confirm payment receipt, bitcoin is released automatically. The entire process is guided step by step within the app.
Install the mobile notification app to stay updated on your trades.
